“DEVBHOOMI: A Memoir of the Cultural Trip to Lansdowne”

The Department of Applied Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, JMI, presented the exhibition “Devabhumi: Uttarakhand”, celebrating the enriching cultural trip to Lansdowne and Jaihrikhal, from 7-10 November, 2024. This memorable journey brought together over 60 participants, including students and faculty members, exploring Uttarakhand’s serene landscapes, its vibrant culture, and rich heritage.
The exhibition was a photographic tribute to the scenic old city of Lansdowne, rustic villages, and pristine waterfalls, the memorable experiences of the Forest treks, cultural programs featuring dance, music, and storytelling, as well as showcasing the artistic narratives capturing the journey’s essence of the tranquil Jaihrikhal with breathtaking Himalayan views. This exhibition is a tribute to the spirit of Uttarakhand and its warm hospitality. The exhibition revisited the transformative journey and celebrating the inspiration of Devabhoomi: Uttrakhand.
The impact of serenity and creative rejuvenation through nature has always been a significant and aesthetical influence for artistic endeavors, and the exhibition “Dev Bhoomi” is a splendid tribute to Reclaiming nature through the lens of creativity. The collaborative efforts of the students, alumni and faculty of Applied Art Department, Faculty of Fine Arts ensures appreciation, admiration and showcases cultural expression into artistic excellence.
The initiative of Dept. of Applied Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, who have taken a significant step towards promoting a conscious effort in exploring the landscape heritage of India and unlocking the potential of cultural significance, creative conceptualisation and reinforcing the vision of the magnificent heritage of Uttarakhand.
This exhibition amplifies the vision of a conscious and creative step towards converting the nature’s beauty into contemporary artistic expressions, providing an aesthetical advancement of visual comprehension. This exhibition was a witness of the intrinsic skills and the art of the young photographers, and artists who have collaborated their transformative art pieces, harnessing the cultural and essence of India, surely the exhibition was a reflection of a powerhouse approach linking nature’s paradise and photography together combining them into a transversal amalgamation.
The exhibition was also a success of the students, faculties, and alumni, who have come forward with such brilliant pieces of artworks, which surely awakens the inter relation between artistic profoundness, aesthetical brilliance, and the spirit of Uttarakhand. Further, Mr. Hafeez Ahmed, (HoD), Dept. of Applied Art, faculty of fine arts, stood as a pillar of support, and knowledge, and also to bring in reality such an innovative exhibition and with surity he, with all the other faculties will continue this effort of multi-disciplinary vision of artistic excellence for the students of Jamia Millia Islamia. The faculty members guided the students throughout this journey, and seamless encouraging the students for their creativity and enthusiasm.
