Doosri Mitti: Philosophy and Action in a Timeless Tale
Doosri Mitti is a groundbreaking film produced by Vijay Bholenath, blending philosophy with gripping drama. Directed by Vajranabh Natraaj Maharshi, the film explores the journey of a mafia don and a research scholar, delving into profound themes of life, death, and the soul’s purpose on Earth.
As a filmmaker and cinematographer, I have witnessed the shifting landscape of cinema, with Indian films increasingly making an impact on international platforms such as the Oscars and Cannes. My most recent project “Doosri Mitti” shot in Bombay, holds particular significance for me. This is not a conventional film-it’s creation began with carefully selecting actors who authentically embodied the characters, followed by finalizing the content and scheduling. For this project, I opted for a cast of talented theater actors and emerging Bollywood performers, offering them a platform to bring a raw and authentic quality to the screen.
The film features an exceptional cast, led by Deepak Anand, a Delhi-based model who is now making his mark in Bollywood and recently appeared in Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency. Deepak plays the role of the researcher, while Vijay Bholenath, a well-known producer( Dhanvika Talkies) from the South Indian film industry, takes on the role of the mafia don. Vijay is not only the film’s producer but also delivers a remarkable performance in this pivotal role. Additionally, the film includes Bollywood talents such as Kuldeep, Prithvi, Raaviz, Pruthvi & Akis who bring fresh energy and nuanced performances to the project.
During the writing process, we grappled with deep existential questions-what is the nature of the soul, where does it originate, and where does it go after death? Although numerous perspectives and teachings exist on these topics, the film seeks to explore these timeless mysteries in an authentic and reflective manner. Interestingly, the cast and crew encountered several extraordinary, almost spiritual, moments during the production.
The film’s sound design and background score are integral to its storytelling. Rather than following a conventional approach, the score is built around conceptual themes that enhance the emotional weight of the film. The dialogues, written by Bhagyarekha Maharshi and Sugandhi Parul Sharma, are crafted with a clear focus on supporting the film’s overall narrative and tone. It’s a film that transcends traditional storytelling, seeking instead to explore universal questions about the human experience and the unknown.
Currently, the film is in the post production phase, with color grading, voice mixing, and 5.1 sound mixing underway. We aim to complete post-production by November and plan to submit the film to several international festivals.
The visual and sound design play an essential role in immersing the audience in the film’s themes. We’ve also incorporated experimental elements into the film’s soundtrack to further differentiate it from conventional works. Deepak Anand’s performance is especially noteworthy-his portrayal of the researcher required a deep level of immersion. To help him embody the character fully, I conducted daily training sessions with him at Versova Beach in Mumbai, ensuring he absorbed every aspect of the role. This commitment extended to the entire cast, whose performances feel lived-in and organic, rather than acted.
Ultimately, this film is not just a cinematic project-it’s an exploration of fundamental truths that have eluded understanding for centuries. It’s a journey into the human soul, a reflection on life, death, and the mysteries that lie beyond.
Doosri mitti shoot sculpted me as an experimental actor
After working as a model in the advertising media industry in Delhi, I moved to Mumbai to try my luck in films. I started giving auditions, meeting casting directors, and discussing opportunities with actor friends. One day, through a friend, I met Dr. Vajranabh Natraj Maharishi. That meeting completely transformed my understanding of acting. Traveling with him, I learned what acting truly is, what film as an art form entails, and the essentials of method acting. He opened my eyes to the do’s and don’ts of the craft.
One day, Guruji spoke to me about his new film, Doosri Mitti. I didn’t even ask about the script because I had already seen his internationally acclaimed, award-winning film, 1973: An Untold Story. After watching it, I knew that if I wanted to unlock my hidden potential and discover the true actor within, I had to work with him. I spoke with Mr. Vijay Bholenath, the producer from Dhanvika Talkies, and decided to be a part of Doosri Mitti.
Guruji would often call me to Versova Beach for acting sessions, and sometimes he would even take me to malls or railway stations for training. With his unique approach, he began to shape me into an actor. And then, the time came. We started shooting. In just five intense days and nights, the film was completed. I only had a one-liner about the story, no details, but I trusted that this film was special. My friends and colleagues also joined the project, and they, too, were drawn to Guruji’s methods.
Throughout the shoot, Guruji would explain each shot and demonstrate how the scenes should be performed, but none of us knew the full story. It wasn’t until later that he revealed it to me, and I was absolutely stunned by the brilliance of the concept. I couldn’t believe I was part of such a profound, philosophical film. The scenes I shot haunted me, and even now, with the film in post-production, they continue to linger in my mind.
By God’s grace, Doosri Mitti is set to premiere this November, and Guruji is preparing to send the film to various international award ceremonies. Every artist needs the support and blessings of their audience. I’ve given my best in this film, and now, it’s in the hands of the viewers to judge. I am deeply grateful to producer Bholenath ji and, of course, Guruji Vajranabh Natraj Maharishi for this life-changing opportunity.

Vijay Bholenath is my long time friend/ colleague and I happen to know the tremendous efforts made by him to convert himself in to such an impressive figure both in terms of physique and acting skills and further turning into a producer which is amazing.
