Mastering Monochrome: A journey in contemporary art

Tavleen Lall, a prodigious talent born in New Delhi in 1995, has emerged as a significant voice in contemporary painting. With an academic journey marked by distinction, she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious College of Art, New Delhi, where she also completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts, both specializing in Painting. Currently, she imparts her extensive knowledge and passion for art as a visiting faculty member at her alma mater, nurturing the next generation of artists.

Tavleen’s artistic journey is adorned with numerous accolades and recognitions that testify to her skill and vision. In 2019, she received the esteemed 92nd AIFACS Painting Award at the All India Annual Art Exhibition. This recognition was followed by the 2nd National Tagore Award in Painting at Vishwarang 2020, hosted by Rabindranath Tagore University. The following year, she was honored with the Art Family Award at the 1st Online All India Art Exhibition. Her impressive achievements culminated in her selection by OCAD University, Canada, for advanced studies in interdisciplinary artworks, demonstrating her evolving artistic repertoire. Tavleen’s exhibitions reflect a rich tapestry of solo and group shows, both physical and virtual, across various prestigious platforms. Her 2023 exhibition ‘Lost Within’ at Triveni Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, curated by. Eminent Artist and Curator, Mohan Singh, further solidified her standing in the art world. In 2021, Tavleen’s solo exhibition ‘Quiescent’ virtual exhibition at Vusawthis. Art, Canada, from 2021 to 2022 highlighted her innovative approach to virtual showcases. She also participated in 2021 – All India Award-Winning Artist in an online art exhibition by Art Family and ‘Emotional Wellness’ at Krimau Arts, Okhla, New Delhi, in 2021. In 2019, her first solo exhibition titled ‘Saar Garbhit’ was showcased at Triveni Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, also curated by Mohan Singh.

Tavleen Lall’s solo titled “Centric Black” at Shridharani Gallery from May 13th to May 22nd, curated by the eminent artist and curator Mohan Singh, is a show stealer of her exhibition that successfully looks forward to captivating viewers with its minimalist beauty and intricacies in textures. Composed by synchronizing a variety of lines and forms in varying shades of black and grey, these works emphasize Tavleen’s dedication and meticulous attention to detail. Each incision on the canvas is a testament to the hours she spends as a creator immersed in creating a symphony of forms that evoke tranquility and depth. As a young abstract artist currently based in New Delhi, Tavleen’s journey is marked by profound connections abridging herself and her paintings. Her post-graduation in painting from the College of Art, New Delhi, laid the foundation for her artistic exploration. Through numerous solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad, including the recent one in Canada, she has honed her craft, embracing a more intuitive and expressionistic approach to her work. Tavleen’s artistic evolution reflects a shift towards a more painterly and emotive style departing from her previous hard-edged mixed media works. Her paintings now pulsate with energy and embrace movements that invite viewers to immerse themselves in a world where shapes, lines, and colors perform to create captivating compositions theatrically. With each brushstroke, Tavleen reveals the depths of her inner world, inviting viewers to join in a deep dive journey of imagination where black serves as a conduit for profound emotions and introspection.
