The Faculty of Fine Arts, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, celebrated the transformative power of light with an extraordinary International Light Art Exhibition on October 29, 2024, at the MF Hussain Gallery. This unique event brought together artists and students from across the globe to explore how light serves as a metaphor for hope, spiritual awakening, and resilience amidst darkness. The exhibition, inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, featured an inspiring array of paintings, sculptures, digital art, photography, and interactive installations. The Honorable Registrar of JMI and Prof. Zahid Husain Khan, National Node for India at UNESCO, graced the event as Guests of Honor. With the theme “Ek Diya Dil Se: Roshni ki Aur, Pragati ki Aur, Unnati ki Aur,” the exhibition underscored light as a source of prosperity, progress, and enlightenment. One of the most striking elements was a life-sized interactive installation—a silhouette of Jamia, 2024—adorned with intricate alpana designs and flowers. The installation highlighted the significance of light, as its true beauty emerged only when visitors lit earthen lamps (diya). The act of lighting over 5,000 diyas became a powerful collective performance symbolizing how even a single spark can dispel darkness and ignite boundless possibilities.
