Digital art by Dayanand Wiz
By Dr. Ved Prakash Bhardwaj
The inauguration of Dayanand Wiz’s exhibition on 29 November 2024 at the All India Fine Art and Craft Society in Delhi marked a significant moment, both for the artist and the perception of digital art. Wiz, working in Delhi Police as inspector, has defied stereotypes associated with his profession by embracing artistic expression. This exhibition, curated by senior artist JP Singh, showcases his journey from traditional oil painting to the digital medium, highlighting his innovative approach to art. Senior artist prof. Paramjeet Sing, Ex chairmen AIFCS, was the chief guest and guest of honour was senior artist Rajesh Bhal , senior artist Ramchandra Pokale and Virendra Kumar Viren, chairmen FACE India Foundation and chief editor Art Times.
Artistic Journey and Themes
Wiz’s work exemplifies how technology, when wielded by an artist’s vision, transforms into a tool of self-expression. Though digital tools and software play a central role in his creations, his art transcends these mediums, embodying his unique sensibilities. The exhibition prominently features faces, both defined and abstract, as central motifs. These faces-infused with layered textures and dynamic colours-invite viewers to interpret diverse emotions and narratives. The use of monochrome and black-toned palettes in some works adds a striking, contemplative depth.
Perspectives on Digital Art
The misconception that digital art lacks artistic value often undermines its significance. This exhibition counters that notion by emphasizing the creative agency of the artist. While inaugurating the exhibition, senior artist Paramjeet Singh said that Dayanand Wiz has done a good job. He has used colours and forms well in his paintings. While introducing the history of digital art in India, he said that when he was the chairman of AIFCS, twelve years ago, he had started a new initiative by keeping digital art in a separate category in the annual exhibition for the first time.
JP Singh, Curator of the exhibition said that it is a great pleasure to introduce Dayanand Wiz, a promising talent who has recently started his journey in the vibrant world of digital painting. With a fresh approach and an innovative approach, his work explores the interplay of colour, light and texture.
Impact and Reception
Dayanand Wiz’s exhibition stands as a testament to the democratizing power of digital mediums, allowing even latecomers to art, like Wiz, to contribute meaningfully. The vibrant interplay of colours, light, and textures in his work offers a fresh perspective and demonstrates his potential as a promising talent in digital art. His family’s support and JP Singh’s mentorship have played a crucial role in shaping this artistic endeavour, culminating in a showcase that challenges perceptions and celebrates the possibilities of the digital canvas.
This exhibition not only enriches Delhi’s art scene but also inspires others to explore art regardless of professional backgrounds or prior experience.
